When the 2021 Sweets & Snacks Expo arrives in Indianapolis this June, attendees will benefit from enhanced safety measures at the Indiana Convention Center. In addition to changes to the format of the show, the ICC has been outfitted with brand new features to allow the confectionery and snack industries to congregate safely for this important event.
The convention center has invested more than $7 million in health and safety upgrades since March 2020, including hospital-grade air filtration, Clorox® Total 360® sanitation systems, touchless doors, hand sanitizer stations, temperature check and health screening stations and more. Additionally, these improvements have earned the ICC the GBAC STAR accreditation –a distinction achieved by only 20% of convention centers in the U.S.
Visit Indy Senior Vice President Chris Gahl stated that these safety measures have proven effective and given meeting planners confidence as they plan their events in Indianapolis. In an interview with Inside Indiana Business, Gahl noted that in addition to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, more than 30 events have successfully taken place across the past year.
At the Indiana Convention Center, some of the enhancements attendees will experience are:
- Temperature and health screenings
- Face coverings in common areas and event spaces
- Built-in six-foot physical distancing measures
- Limited and designated entry and exit doors
- Additional hand-sanitizing stations
- 24/7 air circulation and hospital-grade air filters
- Plexiglass shields at all service areas
- Enhanced training on COVID-19 related practices and protocols for all staff
This year’s Sweets & Snacks Expo will implement extensive COVID-19 safety protocols, including mandatory face coverings, social distancing, temperature checks and socially distanced badge pickup and education sessions. Additionally, show management will require exhibitors to distribute only individually wrapped samples and sanitize their booths regularly, and all large indoor gatherings and social events outside of the show are discouraged.
